The Fitzgerald Medical Center Simulation is a sophisticated management simulation of a US hospital. It illustrates the complexities and trade-offs associated with executive management decisions in hospitals and health systems, and it demonstrates the way in which business environment changes influence performance. The simulation is generally used in a one day workshop. Groups of 4 participants function as executive management teams and run a virtual hospital, making decisions over a 5 year time frame. The simulation is followed by a structured debrief that allows participants to reflect on their experiences during the simulation, and to solidify and clarify learnings. The simulation includes a User Guide and case study, and it can be customized for any hospital or health system.
