Jet Pack Simulation

The Jet Pack Simulation is a sophisticated management simulation of a publicly traded manufacturing company.  It illustrates the complexities and trade-offs associated with executive management decisions in complex organizations, and it demonstrates the way in which business environment changes influence performance.

The simulation is generally used in a one day workshop. Groups of 4 participants function as executive management teams and run the virtual organization, making quarterly decisions over a 5 year time frame. The simulation includes a User Guide and case study, and it can be customized for the leadership development needs of many different types of organizations.

Uses:

This simulation allows high potential executives to step out of the perspective of an individual business unit or function and experience the whole organization perspective. It contains decisions about strategy, finance, and execution, and it is a powerful teamwork development tool. It allows executives to evaluate complex trade-offs and potential unintended consequences associated with management decisions, and it can also be used to build awareness of the potential effects of business environment changes. The simulation is followed by a structured debrief that allows participants to reflect on their experiences during the simulation, and to solidify and clarify learnings. This simulation has been used in customized leadership development programs in numerous large publicly-traded companies, and in university-based executive education and leadership development programs throughout the US.

The Jet Pack Simulation is a highly effective leadership development tool. and it can be used in conjunction with many other executive education and leadership development activities.
